Portsmouth Churches Housing Association has been providing support and accommodation, in our three hostels, for women and children in Portsmouth for over 100 years.  At the end of last year we were very pleased to be included in the Churches Homeless Action vouchers for Christmas scheme. Residents and staff attended a special service in St. Mary’s Church, Fratton to collect the supermarket vouchers, which had been donated by members of the public.  The vouchers were distributed to all residents for Christmas.  In addition, Management Committee members had agreed that rather than exchange Christmas cards to each other they would donate money which could be used to buy gifts for the residents of Somers Road, a hostel for single women.  The vouchers and gifts were distributed during a coffee morning organised by the residents, which everyone enjoyed.

At the start of this year the Management Committee members recognised that there is still a desperate shortage of decent affordable accommodation for single women and young families. It was decided that the Association would purchase a three bedroom house for one of our young families, who is currently in a two bedroom property.  A new family will be moving into the smaller property very soon.  Needless to say both families are delighted.

Finally, we are very pleased to have received a donation of toiletries, food and cleaning material from CHIMES (Churches together in Milton, Eastney and Southsea).  I would like to thank everyone involved for thinking of us and our residents.

Investors In People Award

Throughout the final week of March 2014, members of our staff team and Management Committee  were interviewed.

The purpose of the interviews was to see how,  as an Employer, Portsmouth Churches Housing Association looked after its staff, that everyone has access to any training they wish to participate in, and that they are kept up to date with the Association’s current and future plans.

We can very proudly announce that yet again, Portsmouth Churches Housing Association has received a Certificate of Accreditation from the Investors In People Award.

Looking for Volunteer Committee Members

Can you spare two hours a month to help homeless families in Portsmouth?

We are looking for volunteer Committee Members to help develop our work providing housing, care and support.

We are looking for new members to serve on the Management Committee, especially people with experience in providing care services or in handling finances and a compassion towards the homeless.

The members of our Management Committee bring a variety of skills and professional experience to the task of governing the Association, overseeing its work and ensuring that it provides good quality services.
